The ULTIMATE core workout...for you!

Uncategorized Jun 25, 2018

If you could pick any exercises for your ultimate core workout what would you go with?    What equipment would you need to get everything you want from the workout?  Which moves would be the best for making your core and back stronger and for giving you more of that six pack look?   Would you search for the toughest, craziest core exercises you could possibly work on?  How important are body alignment and safe movement to you?

There’s a reason these aren’t the easiest questions to answer. There was a time when almost all of us had such a strong connection between our brain and our core muscles.   But inactivity and our sitting habits gradually take away that easy movement and beautiful posture we had as children.   And we’ve all seen how, as time goes by, our freedom and safety to move and exercise isn’t the same, at least for most of us.  So what can we do about that?

We have bad habits built into our muscles that need to be undone, so we need training on the specific core muscle actions that give us good body alignment.  When we exercise, we need reconnect to our core, so that at the end of our workouts we feel like we can control our posture and our movement more easily.

On the other hand, we can’t keep practicing our posture with little challenge to our muscles.  We’ll never get fit that way!  We want real strength gains, better balance and more athletic physical ability, and we all know the only way to get there is to keep intentionally increasing the challenge in our workout routines.  We need more reps, greater range of motion and more resistance in our exercises if we’re really going get stronger.

Now is this all you need to develop your ultimate core workout?  Not necessarily.  You might want exercises that help with training specifically for the things you like to do.  If you’re a runner, a dancer or a basketball player, you’ll use your core strength in different ways.   Personally I enjoy acrobatic calisthenics, and I have no gymnastics background so I need help!  I’ve gotten good tips from books, an online course and my peers.  I learned this move from a workout buddy at the beach.  In the same way, if an exercise seems credible, safe and helpful for your sport, it could be great to possibly incorporate them in your training.

To put it all in a nutshell, whenever you exercise, remember to master your movement and make yourself strong!   I hope this video gave you some new ideas and inspired you to keep striving for your ultimate core workout.   Check out my online course, Progressive Core Strengthening and subscribe to this channel for more tips to help you in your training process.
